5Hudson's Adventure Island is the first in a series and has you playing as Master Higgins through 32 stages where you can run, jump, and pick up items. By default, you cannot attack enemies but some items will give you that ability. The gameplay loop is simple however I found the game to be incredibly difficult. Jumping high requires momentum and often requires running all of the time. The constant life drain and ability to pick up negative items is annoying. The sequels do everything significantly better.
